M.B. Torcida leaves Murter harbour every day to visit the Kornati National Park, one of the most fascinating archipelagos of the Adriatic Sea, which got its status as a national park back in 1980 due to its outstanding beauty, interesting geomorphology and a rich marine ecosystem.
What makes Murter special is its proximity to the Kornati National Park. Such a location makes it easy to be able to enjoy the whole park and not waste most of the day travelling to it as is the case with excursions from Šibenik or Zadar.
Spread over an area of 200 km2, the archipelago consists of 89 islands, islets and cliffs, which, with its unusual formations, leaves the visitor awestruck with their beauty and the pure power of nature.
The wilderness of the Kornati archipelago is enriched by only a few rare human interventions that testifie to Murter's attempts, as the chief landowners on the Kornati islands, to make way for a good life far from the coast. Honouring the past, still firmly standing on the islands, are stone walls - boundaries between neighbouring properties as well as the many churches, olive groves, docks and forts.
Possibly the best way to experience such an unusual combination of the work of nature and man is a boat trip on a vessel that endured over six decades of “bura” and “jugo”, the famous north and south winds, sailing the Adriatic. Below the wooden mast of M.B. Torcida, the cruise of the entire Kornati National Park gets another dimension, bringing the modern day man back to its close and yet so distant past.
What makes this trip special is Murter's proximity to the National Park. Such a location makes it easy to be able to enjoy the whole park and not waste most of the day travelling to it as is the case with excursions from Šibenik or Zadar.
